The critical decade of climate action is upon us.The latest assessment report of the IntergovernmentalPanelon Climate Change makes clear that without rapidand large-scale emissions reductions,our collectivegoal oflimiting warmingtocloseto 1.5 °C,or even to 2 °℃,will be beyond reach.Against a backdrop of extremeweather events and ever-increasing public concernabout the climate emergency, many governments andcompanies have responded by raising their ambition.More than 150 countries have submitted new NDCSand around 90 % of global emissions are now coveredby a net-zero target. In recent months, governmentsand businesses also have come together in a varietyof initiatives to accelerate progress in specific sectors.With these developments we are headed in theright direction: the International Energy Agency hasestimated that if all pledges,including those madeat COP26 in Glasgow, are met in full and on time, theaverage global temperature increase could be limitedto 1.8 °C by the end of the century.
