The Austrian company plans to open the plant by March with an initial yearly production of 50 megawatts, it said in a statement. Inverters are needed in solar parks to convert direct current from solar panels to alternating current for use in power lines. The facility will be Fronius's third solar inverter factory, adding to plants in Austria and the Czech Republic, a spokeswoman said. Fronius follows several manufacturers, mainly solar panel and cell producers, announcing projects in the province to take advantage of the feed-in tariff program introduced in May 2009. Ontario's program requires developers source 50 per cent of a project's value in the province in 2010, rising to 60 per cent from January 2011. |
